Thank you very much for your interest in auditioning for our 2026 production of Dear Evan Hansen.

We are still formulating our launch night, auditions, workshops, and rehearsal schedule, but rest assured we have now received your contact details and will forward you the audition information, as soon as it becomes available.

In the meantime here is some general information about us and our initial vision for Dear Evan Hansen prior to the audition pack being issued:

Launch Night:

Likely to be a Tuesday or Wednesday evening mid-February 2026.

Workshops and Auditions:

Likely to be in late February, early March 2026, with auditions taking place over two dates. Evan will be auditioned and cast, prior to all other auditions.

Rehearsals:

From March until October on Tuesday evenings from 7.30pm-10.00pm.

Additional rehearsals on Sunday afternoons will take place in May, June and September.

We understand that cast will have pre-existing commitments and not all cast will be required at all rehearsals. We try and schedule around pre-existing commitments, however you should realistically be able to attend about 80% of rehearsals. With such a small cast, your attendance is important for your fellow actors as well as yourself.

Cast size:

We anticipate supplementing the professional cast size of eight with an additional four ensemble members giving a total cast size of twelve. This will allow for an addition of swings as well as adding weight vocally and choreographically to some of the larger choral numbers and scenes.

Production values:

We always strive for the highest standards in our productions. The musicians, crew and technical teams that support our shows are sensationally talented.

No cast are pre-selected, and auditions are always open to everyone.

With a cast of only twelve on stage, every successful cast member will play a pivotal role in the production and there is therefore an expectation of commitment to our ethos of producing “unforgettable theatrical experiences”, which are anything but ‘amateur'. We work hard towards achieving the highest quality of performance across vocals, acting and choreography and expect the same commitment from our casts.

Social media & Marketing:

As a registered non-commercial theatre community interest company (CIC) all profits are invested back into the company. The funding to produce our shows is about 95% ticket sales, with social events, cast production fees and programme advertising making up the extra. As such we expect all cast members to play an active role in advertising the show and sharing Creators social media interactions, participating in the social events (about 3-4 between February and October) and also the publicity functions we organise like festival appearances, radio interviews and in-person leafleting events (there are only about 5 or 6 of these events during the show period).

The cast “show fee” for 2026 is likely to be £150.00 and this includes an exclusive Creators’ “Dear Evan Hansen” T-Shirt and contributes to our initial costs for things like scripts, scores and rehearsal venue fees.

Characters and playing ages:

Playing age refers to the age range an actor can believably portray on stage, regardless of their actual real-life age. It focuses on appearance, energy, and demeanour rather than chronological age.

EVAN HANSEN

An anxious, isolated teenager who desperately wants to belong but often feels invisible.

His fear and loneliness drive him to make harmful choices, even as he genuinely yearns to connect and help others.

Beneath his mistakes lies a deeply empathetic young man struggling to understand himself and find a place in the world.

Playing age:      18 - 25

HEIDI HANSEN

A fiercely devoted single mother doing everything she can to provide stability while carrying the weight of overwhelming responsibility.

She hides her exhaustion behind determination, always pushing forward even when she feels left out of her son’s world.

Beneath her resilience is a profound vulnerability and a longing to be truly seen and appreciated by Evan.

Playing age:      40s - 50s

ZOE MURPHY

Compassionate yet guarded, shaped by years of living in the shadow of her brother’s volatility.

She craves stability and authenticity, often doubting whether people care for her or for the idea of helping her troubled family.

As she slowly lets her walls down, Zoe reveals a resilient young woman longing for genuine connection and a life not defined by her brother’s chaos.

Playing age:      17 - 24

CONNOR MURPHY

A troubled and isolated teenager whose anger often masks profound pain and a longing to be understood.

He feels alienated both at home and at school, trapped in a cycle of hostility he doesn’t know how to break.

Though his real-life presence in the story is brief, his absence—and the imagined version of him—reveals the depth of his struggle and the complexity of how others try to make sense of him.

Playing age:      18 - 25

CYNTHIA MURPHY

A deeply loving mother who clings to hope even as she feels her family slipping through her fingers.

She masks her fear and heartbreak with optimism, desperately trying to hold everyone together.

Her need for connection makes her vulnerable, but it also reveals her unwavering devotion to those she loves.

Playing age:      40s - 50s

LARRY MURPHY

A stoic and emotionally guarded father who struggles to connect with his son and often defaults to discipline over dialogue.

His rigidity stems from a deep sense of responsibility and an unspoken grief he doesn’t know how to express.

Though he appears distant, Larry’s moments of tenderness reveal a man who desperately wants to do right by his family but feels unequipped to bridge the emotional gap.

Playing age:      40s - 50s

JARED KLEINMAN

Masks his insecurity with sarcasm and bravado, using humour as both a shield and a weapon.

Although he presents himself as indifferent, he clearly craves validation and a sense of belonging.

Despite his selfish tendencies, Jared ultimately shows flashes of loyalty and genuine concern beneath the snark.

Playing age:      18 – 25

ALANA BECK

Driven, hyper-focused, and deeply anxious about being overlooked, pushing herself to excel in every possible space.

Her desire to “matter” fuels both her compassion and her overreaching tendencies, especially when she inserts herself into the Murphys’ tragedy.

Beneath her polished, overachiever exterior is a vulnerable teen desperate for connection and reassurance.

Playing age:      18 – 25

FOUR ADDITIONAL ENSEMBLE CHARACTERS

We anticipate casting an additional four actors to supplement the above cast.

They must also be able to sing and dance well and will likely be used as “swings” for the above-named roles, in addition to having their own characters and roles to play within the company as fellow students, teachers, etc.

If your circumstances change at any point and you are no longer able to participate in the production, please simply drop us an email to hello@creatorstheatre.com and we can remove your details from our database.

We really look forward to seeing you at our launch night in the New Year.
